Those machines aren't all made by the same company and aren't calibrated the same. A machine that always runs a lower number will get more play because people are disappointed in their number so it will encourage them to spend more money to try again. On the other side some places have it read high, which doesn't make as much money but causes a huge ego boost for the user, which in turn, causes them to want to spend more money, possibly on another arcade game. Its just depends on what crowd you're catering to.
