At my tap out ceremony no one in my family acknowledged me. Not a letter. Not a phone call. My parents… Proud Republicans said that the only reason why women were in the Air Force was to “service” men. I graduated with honors! Received a special commendation for falling back and making sure that one of my fellow airman, that was falling behind in the confidence obstacle course, made the run to qualify and graduate. I was the last one standing when she and my TI finally tapped me out together. These are the experiences that make us stronger!

This tap out could really be sad or humiliating to those with no family. They should be excused from standing for tap out and allowed to just leave.
