A woman called police after hearing her friend might’ve been held hostage at a man’s house. She wasn’t sure it was true but didn’t want to ignore it. Police went to the home and knocked for a long time before the man finally answered. After persistent questioning, he allowed them to search the basement, where they found nothing. Days later, officers were called back for loud noises from the same house. Remembering the earlier visit, they insisted on searching the entire home. The man agreed but only through a side door, claiming the front was full of trash. Inside, he acted nervous and played loud music whenever police neared the front. After making him turn it off, one officer heard faint noises from the porch. Searching through the piles, they found a trapped elderly woman stuffed in a plastic tote—alive but paralyzed. The man later said he believed she knew he was a police informant and claimed he acted out of paranoia and fear.
