It may be bc Im an American, but being 1/4 Korean here, has been entertaining to say the least, every time I got one of these jokes I died laughing. Most of em were Chinese jokes and I would explain to them that’s funny but I’m Korean not Chinese, we’re both Asian but not both Chinese, and they’d laugh. One day buddy of mine said, doesn’t matter what ur ethnicity or heritage are or were, they’re joke isn’t towards your race, it’s ur eyes bub. I was confused, he said you could be Vietnamese and they’d make Chinese jokes, it’s bc they’re trying to be funny not rude. That’s how it is here he told me, he was actually a little Vietnamese himself, that’s when I found out, racism is a social construct and contagion, I considered race jokes bc it was targeting Asians, but I’m not Korean-American, I’m an American who is part Korean. Race is a joke, and if you see it otherwise, it’ll only hurt yourself.
