Did you know after ww1 I believe, the planes were starting to move faster than the missiles and bombs they were dropping causing some of the dropped or released payload would catch wind and hit the bottom of said aircraft releasing them, so they added little hydraulic pins above them to pop them out rather than releasing them freely.
