It's basic etiquette to not put your feet you just walked the filthy streets on on a seat someone else is going to use. In some parts of the US you can be fined for putting your feet on a train seat, and the conductor can have you removed if you don't comply. You can be nasty and wear shoes in bed or wipe them on the couch at your own home. Doesn't mean it's acceptable everywhere else
