this is an amazing end to a movie and one of the handful of really powerful films to come out of Hollywood in the last decade. there's multiple things happening in this scene, for starters it's obviously the Spanish arriving (Italians, Portuguese and other southern Mediterranean Europeans were present) the Aztecs were absolutely a savage people but the Europeans were a different level of brutal and genocide was nothing new to them and the Aztec civilization was over the second they showed up. everything this guy fought for ended in an instant, the pursuers way of life ended at that moment too, tribal conflicts ended and coalesced into a fight against the Spanish. so much happened in this last few minutes of the movie. great movie worth watching for sure
