my husband's key fob malfunctioned the other night and locked the door while the key was inside and the truck was already running. we couldn't have attempted this trick if we tried because his locks go all the way down to where you can't pull them up with your fingers.

The slipknot closed around the peg quite easily when the string was pulled. So how did he pull the string down past the resistance of the door seal without the slipknot closing prematurely? Hmm.
