an earthen jar is made of soil based clay. it is formed and then heated to a high temperature and that causes the clay to bond and become impervious to liquid and then you can use it for storage or fermenting food items. when fermentation is being done, you can cause the jar to explode. once fermentation is complete then you can put a seal on that allows the product to breathe( just like a cork on a bottle of wine). 🤔👍
