totally depends on the person. size and practice play a role. I dont want my 5 foot tall wife trying to defend herself with 12 gauge shotgun against 1 or 2 intruders with pistols. I like my ar I practice with it, its sighted in so I could hit any spot I want like if a family member was in the way it would be easy for me to pin piont a shot and no kick at all. consecutive shots are easily landed. with a shotgun I dont practice and I am not nearly as good with a pistol on consecutive shots.
