Lost my husband 5 years ago. Along with his military retirement and his social security. He had cancelled a life insurance policy without my knowledge shortly before his death. Poor planning on my part. I should have thought about these “what if’s”. I followed him around the world for his career. Now I’m old and broke. Think ahead, ladies. Don’t find yourself in my shoes.
I got wrongfully terminated from GM,and have zero idea why,and I no knowledge about my 401k.After twenty years of service..

If you were married to him for 10 years you qualify for his Social Security benefits if they are higher than yours. I get my ex husband’s amount. I was a stay at home mother for years. I’m very thankful for his much higher rate. He worked for 40 years.

GM hourly workers didn't lose their pensions because of the bankruptcy. Salaried workers were given annuities to equivalent to their pensions. I think there was a buyout option and he must have taken that. Poor choice not misfortune.

Back when I was 14/15 yrs old I knew an older gentleman who was about 50 yrs old an he had worked for 20 yrs at 2 different companys an he was retired already an drawing a retirement pension from both companies an he bought an new truck every other yr an a new Cadillac in between those yrs he lived good had plenty of money,Companies just dont do that kinda stuff for employees anymore an its a shame Iam past 50 so that was along time ago,also where I live a pork slaughter house has been in operation for over 60 yrs an back when was union an employees got profit sharing 30+ yrs ago they made more money than they do now at $24/hr
