it was not a very respectful gift. It implied that he sees her as more frail and needful of help than she really is. If he really wanted to be helpful, he should have told her he wanted to get her something she needed and asked her for suggestions. I applaud her reaction. It showed that she was strong and capable.

Piss off! I love it 🥰 My late mother had Parkinson’s and we went thru the various stages with her. The cane, the walker, the wheelchair and finally bed ridden and death. During the cane stage I’d show up at their house and come in thru the kitchen door where the cane would be standing next to the microwave cart. This was the aluminum type with four rubber feet for balance. She would be sitting in the living room by the fire without it. I would walk in put the cane next to her chair and say “this isn’t doing you any good in the other room” The problem was she never listened and frequently fell.
My mom is much too active for that. She is 94 and that thing would just slow her down.
Just wait her day is coming she'll be asking for one age has nothing to do with the need. most her age need knee, hip, back surgeries get her a chair for her toilet also.
It didn’t even have any wheels or a seat or any fun accessories. It was a bare minimum “Zimmer frame”. Insulting, IMO. I’m 81 and use my mom’s hand-me-down walker and it is better than this pos.
when my daughter bought me compression socks a heating pad , and pull ups for xmas i was very hurt i took it as an insult and hateful thing i dont need any of them. but when my granddaughter gave me comfy pj's a warm throw blanket and green tea i was thrilled they all say old but not all ate insulting
yeah that would have been my reaction. they only thing worse than that would’ve been if he gave her some depends growing old sucks. You don’t have to be reminded of it.

I'm not that old, always be very active morning till night, I've had 10 surgical procedures since 2020, Knee,from a fall, hip, mylopathy,( head, neck, 2 back surgeries. She's going to be difficult to deal with when she ever does need medical help. you a thoughtful son

It is a funny thing to do to her. We older people that have walking problems or other problems , don’t need to to be reminded how helpless we have become. This isn’t a way to help us feel any better about how we are made to feel useless by family members

it is not the best gift for Christmas, but, to react and talk the way she did is not appropiate. She could have recognized his intentions and gracefully thanked him and explained that she was not ready for it yet, and would keep it till then or return it. To talk to him with such filthy language shows a lack of respect for him . She doesn't deserve anything for her attitude. She made her feelings more important than his . what a disgusting way to treat anyone. Pray for her, and just let it go , it isnt worth getting upset over.
