No no no. I make a thickened white sauce. Melt lots of cheese in the sauce. Pour it over the macaroni, add lots more cheese on top. Sometimes I put browned panko on top and bake.

Really everyone has their preference how to make our cheese sauce. You can use a variety of 3 or 4 cheeses to melt down for mixture and dissolve it either with half and half, or whole milk and heavy cream. You saute these cheeses together combined and add flour or corn starch for that rue. I do the say by pour it into the macaroni and add more shredded cheese and bake and seasonings in the oven to my desire time and temperature.
Too watery. Add more cheese to the mix. Maybe a roux.
