That method is too abrasive to internal parts. Better to rev the engine to 2000 rpm's and slowly dribble Automatic Transmission Fluid down the Carburetor untill quart is gone. ATF is a high detergent 5 weight oil. Done this many times buying used engines from Japan that have been sitting a long while. Peace Out

man this makes me miss my dad so much... he rebuilt a '52 Ford panel delivery from the frame up, and the engine, along with so many other cool trucks... he even made like a rat rod but a Harley! had parts from a few different models but it was his prized possession. that was the last thing he built before he died. only got to ride it once but I'm glad he got that one ride in at least 🤟🖤

IMy thinking besides valve seals, rings may be stuck ? There was an old sand method for setting rings.. Run , drain & hope! 😆

No, you should not put Bon Ami in your carburetor to keep an engine from smoking. While there are anecdotal reports from some forums about using Bon Ami as a temporary, makeshift method to seat piston rings and stop smoking by creating a steam and abrasive mixture, it is a highly risky DIY procedure that can cause severe engine damage and is not recommended. Instead, address the smoking problem with proper engine diagnostics or by using purpose-made products designed to reduce oil burning. 😳

would have went to valve seals first if the low mileage sorce was reliable, but the bon Amy is basically honing the cylinder walls

exhaust manifold or head gasket

with that compression you should be fine unless the valve guides are leaking and I personally would look to them first they sat for 28 years probably dry rotted hence why you are smoking rev it up to around 2k rpm an see if the smoke kinda goes away if so I'd bet money on it if it gets worse it's the other problem and just needs to be ran but 200 miles should have been enough to seat the rings
