True story. I was asleep in the car while my daughter drove after being up since three upon hearing my younger daughter was in labor early after a planned delivery at naval base in Florida. I live in NC. Had to wait til six to call in a sub. Went to school at four (balcony door entrance) and left plans for Thursday and Friday. So many things conspired to keep me from getting on the road including my older daughter wanting to go and MY CAR HAVING A FLAT TIRE???? So she’s driving, I’m sleeping, and a voice clearly states “there’s going to be an accident, you need to drive!” I told my daughter, she pulled over, and started driving. It’s November, a horribly cold rain starts pouring down. We crest a hill, total bedlam in front of us. Cars hydroplaning, TIRES flying through the air, a tractor trailer looming towards us, going off in the median, the messed up car spinning in the air TWICE coming towards us. Somehow, I got the car off the road while the wrecked car (con below)

I have always been the one that drives. Even got my license early so I could get an after school job way back in the day. That was decades and decades ago and so far, I have popped my front tire on a motorcyclists exhaust pipe when he stopped suddenly in front of me and I was able to swerve enough to avoid hitting him directly, yet not so much that I hit the car directly beside us. He didn't even get knocked over, just pushed forward a few feet and was fine. That is the only accident I have ever had with me behind the wheel. I lived in Michigan and Maine for years and learned how to drive on snow and ice right away, and then lived in Florida for awhile and learned all about heavy downpours and now, the desert roads out here as soon as we finally get our first rain in 4 months and the slick silt and oil built up on them. You need to pay attention, never over-react or over-correct, and stay calm. It is the person, not their gender, that makes a good driver. 👍
