I’ve had a similar procedure done before and it turned out amazingly… but don’t try to do it yourself. You need the proper tools.
It’s called texturizing! At least that’s what my Stylist calls it.

it's called a " caping shears/scissor", to reduce bulk and shape. An old friend probably still uses his.
The scissors are only thinning shears, which is just taking some of the hair out in between to make a shaggy look or not as thick.

Only had one hairstylist do this to me when I was a teen. Never again. I have thick hair and I do not want it thinned out so it’s easier for them to handle.
