I've lived in a northern suburb of Ohio and visit the places that Amish live in since I was young girl. We have to remember that the Amish have mIntained their culture and way of living for years. I'd hesitate to judge them, or criticize their beliefs and way of life. Given the hate , greed, and free lifestyle prevalent in our society, they will survive in spite of our Country's struggles that are yet to come.

I was hitchhiking and went past this farm where the Amish were doing that only they were shucking oats .I walked out into the field they saw me I asked if I could help in exchange for a meal they said okay and I stacked oats they finished took me to the farmhouse had me sit at a big table and we ate corn and asparagus and pickled beets and raisin pie. when I left the old man said you are the first English to come in my house and talk to my family.then the woman all went to the barn with all these kids to milk cows I followed and the woman said have you ever seen a cows tit no I said we'll come down low here and I did and she sprayed milk in my face and all those children laughed.oh what a great time that was

Their kids start working around the farm at a very young age. They all work hard from dawn through part of the night.

We could learn a lot about working the land and maintaining life without destroying everything in sight by adopting some of the Amish ways.

They treat their horses like a piece of furniture. When they aren't useful anymore, due to injury or age, they are sold to auction for slaughter. And they run puppy mills.

Are they harvesting sugar cane? Someone said corn, but that doesn’t look like corn and it’s planted too close together for it to be corn.

Ask the big question. Did anyone notice how huge that crop was that they were harvesting? Why isn't it happening every where else? It is not just the land these guys get more per acre than any other farmers period.

Oh my late Aunt and Uncles neighbor, Mr. Less cut hay with a team of horses. He stood on their back towards the center of the horses. He did this into his mid 90’s. He was about a hundred years old when he passed.

I think they do a furlough or furlongs at a time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like I read they expect a horse to give a good run for one furlough (220 yards), then turn/rest and do it again. Seems like the plow 8 sections in a day - a good day's work in their eyes.

I have much respect for the Amish & their hard working way of life, BUT, they need to care for their horses better instead of sending them to slaughter after they have also worked hard & help the Amish retain their way of life. Shame on these people.

Amish horses are worked almost to death and then sent to slaughter auctions. They’ll squeeze every penny out of those poor animals.

I have to point out that the Amish abuse and use their horses till they're basically dead on their feet and then put them to auction they're terrible with their animals over time it's notorious for the Amish people

there are two different horse drawn pieces of equipment there. one of them is a flat trailer that they are stacking the corn stalks on and the other one is actually cutting the stocks at the base. it's not exactly 8 wide for the horses. it's two rows of four.
