NEVER give your open hand to a dog you don't know...close your hand into a fist and let them smell the back of your hand .. this way if it's not friendly it can't get your fingers or your hand ...when you hand is balled into a fist and giving them the back of it for them to smell they can't take a chunk of your hand with them...that the safest way to greet a dog you don't know .. and will save your hand and fingers from a dog bite ...I was a neter reader for electric company and was taught this by a professional dog trainer and it works ...was never bitten and had a few try doing this technique but the dog never got a chance to sink it's teeth into me by using that method ...thought I would pass it along 👍....
