Yeah that's not going to explode regardless of whether or not it's gas or diesel. However gas and diesel will expand as they warm up. storage underground is relatively cool so if you top the tank up to the top you could end up with fuel leaking out the vent tube. in newer cars the gas will back feed into the charcoal canister and ruin it.
