Ever seen the image of the vascular system? It clearly shows unoxygenated (blue)blood going into the heart and oxygenated (red)blood coming out.

This was never taught in school. Y'all probably got pranked by your uncle because veins appear blue due to lower oxygen content of the blood returning to the heart and lungs. Oxygenated blood leaving the heart after passing through the lungs is a much brighter red than the darker blood in the veins. Some people are a little slow.

All blood is oxygenated….these comments prove most everyone has no basic understanding of how anything works. I never knew intelligence was so rare until the age of social media. We as a species are doomed.

Yes in the 80s they taught us in school that blood inside your body was blue but once you were cut or blood came out of the body it turned red once it hits oxygen. I remember going home and telling my mom and my mom saying why Shit NO that's not true

avator

I remember my teacher telling me this then I went home and started asking questions (becuase that what I do if it don’t make since) and my entire family caused an uproar at the school about teaching the kids lies instead of the truth and she ended up getting fired for like 7 other reporters being filed on her for misinforming children as an educator because she was also trying to push her other agendas onto 6th graders

No, when you were a child in elementary school. And they showed you an illustration of the blood flow, they colored the blue as this oxygenated and the red part as oxygenated, just for illustration purposes. So when the child asks so the blue is the oxygen, the teacher would say yes, but the kit was literally talking about the color but the teacher thought illustration

Between 1960 and 1990 it was taught that blood was blue until it was oxygenated. Go ask AI. No textbook said it. It came verbally from teachers who didn't know any better. "Where the false statement actually came from Not the books. It came from: Teacher explanation shortcuts Elementary-level simplification Verbal reinforcement year after year Diagrams being treated as literal representations Once a teacher said: “Veins are blue because the blood doesn’t have oxygen” students naturally concluded: “So the blood must be blue.” That conclusion was rarely corrected later."

I don't think we were taught that as kids, we assumed it was because our veins appeared blue through our skin.

avator

yeah I remember when they tried to teach this to us. I also remember them not having an answer when I said it would be that color regardless bc blood transfers oxygen throughout the body!
