There's easier way. Plug the sink, then twist off the little end of the faucet, and keep it safe. Turn on the water or wring your little finger in if you'd like. Cleaners etc. Dry off the parts and screw it back on. Test to see if it's on by turning on the faucet. If you're satisfied that it will stay on, clean up the mess. If you do happen to lose the piece or even if it is the kind with a detachable screen, they sell replacements or just cut a little piece from sample screen at the hardware store. The item number is in the last place you look.
