Landing are always at full military power. It’s about 15 to 30% more than civilian aircraft use for landing. A friend who worked the deck during Nam told me once that the F4s would also have to use afterburners depending upon how much damage they had from combat missions

Cable broke, look close, this is why they always land at full throttle. When that E2C vanishes it's like a lifetime waiting for it to reappear for everyone on that deck and in the tower.
I bet everyone on the plane had to change their underwear later.

I was in VAW-125 on the USS Saratoga CV-60.
That’s why we always carried an extra flight suit and pair of underwear when we went flying.
