The recent cruise ship that found a raft at sea is the Carnival Vista. The Carnival Vista, while sailing toward the port of Amber Cove on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, received an emergency alert and immediately altered its course to respond. The officers of the cruise ship spotted a life raft in distress and recovered six crewmembers from the cargo ship. The ship then coordinated with the local Coast Guard and the Dominican Republic Navy to assist in the search and rescue operation for the remaining crew members. The search and rescue operation was successful, and all six of the missing crew members were located and rescued. The cargo ship was named Two Brothers.
My ship (Norwegian) picked up a couple of rafts with 7 illegals off Florida. They were taken to the brig. The crew despised them because they "abandoned" their families and we were told that the women (and even the children!) were very often forced into prostitution in their home countries and that their families slowly would starve and "bad things" would otherwise befall the families. This is what we were told in 1998. That said, I feel that illegal immigrants should immediately self-deport and improve their home countries!
Maritime law I believe says if you see something in the ocean that may be a raft you have to give help.

If you watched just about any season of Deadliest Catch you would already know that those rafts fall off and get swept overboard by waves all the time. 99.9 percent of the time these are empty and belonged to a ship that reported something similar to what I said above. However it is maritime law for them to check.

first of all in no way would they turn the ship around they would lower one of the many life boats the same ones that they use as tenders shuttles to transport the passengers to and from the ship at port of calls when the vessel is to large for that ports docks.
Thank God we didn't bomb them.

So keep that in the back of your MIND AND INSTEAD of believing EVERYTHING ONE SAYS actually do some Research because KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. Plus the Ability to think for Oneself and formulate an Opinion on your own accord is Priceless!
I was actually on a cruise and we went to help someone in a raft and it delayed us by like an hour and a half because we had to wait for the coast guard to show up. I’ve only been on one cruise so it must happen pretty often

I was on a Princess cruise that rescued a family on an overturned sailboat. It was night and we just happened to be taking a walk on the deck after a late dinner, so we watched the whole thing. The ship had spotlights focused on them and I'll never forget seeing them clinging to the hull.
