at 70 mph is 100 feet away apparently no one ever read the book when getting your driver's license. In town at a red light it is one car space away. If you are two car length away on the internet you can't stop on time when they are a wreck in front of you they are a reason why it's 100 feet away.

I would have held my lane when rhe truck started coming over. Any collision would have been clearly his fault. In Missouri, following another vehicle at an unsafe distance is reckless driving. Let him hit me. He will pay to fix my car and probably some medical bills too.
