My parents were survivors of the Great Depression. They would hide money in books as well. When they passed away I was mortified to learn their books (mostly religious) had been discarded or put in the backyard storage unit. They were moldy. I'm allergic to mold so they all had to go. There's a good chance a lot of cash went with them.

I got a couple of books at one of those take a book; leave a book boxes. When I started reading one it had a Walmart gift card in it. When I turned it over; the scratch off on the back hadn't been done For fun I scratched it off and called the number to see if there was any $$$$ on.it. It had $200 on it. Since there was no way to return it; I went shopping.
