OK, it's now useless and can't be recycled.

a few slashes with a box cutter would do the trick without wasting all that water.

Use a box cutter and cut into smaller pieces. This is a waste of water.

Well you could do what you're doing, and remove the labels and use it as a weed barrier in your garden, where it will be useful as well as the water.

But can you still put it in the recycle bin? Ours specifically says to flatten

I have a rural well so the excess water can water the grass. I also frequently have big boxes that I need to take to recycle. Never thought about getting them wet to help break them down. Thanks!

Waste haulers will wet cardboard bales to get more $$ from recyclers since they're paid by the ##

By the time you're done wasting water I could use a box cutter to cut that up and have that in the recycling bin. Really, dude

You could have used that inside of a planter

You can also put them out when it rains. Lot less money spent on your water bill.

Ok but if you have a garden you should use it to lay down to kill the weeds from coming up!
