The Hebrew word ruach and the Greek word pneuma mean both "breath" and "spirit."" In Genesis, God "breathed into [Adam's] nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul." This connects human life and consciousness directly to a divine act. Religions forget that without the divine breath, there's no praise to an external savior deity that exists in an empty void.
