It was a 2024 Olympic World Record by Armand "Mondo" Duplantis of Sweden. 20 feet 6 inches.
As a pole vaulter myself in High School with no coaching. I only achieved 9’6” terrible for that sport even for HS. And was embarrassed when I went against against Bellflower HS in southern Calif in the 70’s. And these guys with great coaching & training since they were in the 7th grade. We’re clearing 15-16 feet in High School. And at that time the world record was 18 feet By Bruce Jenner who was a man at that time. And to see this guy do 20 feet, he must be Super human! Unbelievable!😲
I tried a lot of different athletic things when I was a young man. Pole vaulting is one that I could never do with any meaningful success. I'm absolutely amazed at how these men and women can launch themselves.

He was really hauling as to get the momentum he needed, but the form of his jump was so perfect it did not look like a human , that jump was really impressive every aspect of it

Mondo Duplantis is the most gifted athlete on earth! Speed-strength-perfect timing-body control If there is any other athlete who believes himself a better athlete than this young man we’ll let him get a pole and try pole vaulting just 15 feet! 😳😳 This man went over 20 feet plus! 👍🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅

so, i understand the physics behind this, the weight transfer, using the strength of the ending pole to launch your weight upward, etc…. if i was to try this, id be lucky to accurately place the pole in the correct spot, lol. absolutely amazing to watch a human conquer something like this. literally over 2 stories high.

I USED TO POLE VAULT IN JR HIGH. WE DID NOT HAVE A PIT TO PRACTICE ON SO I SUCKED AT IT REAL BAD. I WAS A DISTANCE RUNNER. BROKE A 5 MINUTE MILE IN 9TH GRADE. 4:36 MILE MY JR YEAR ON AN INDOOR TRACK. DID NOT RUN TRACK OR CROSS COUNTRY MY SENIOR YEAR. THEY WERE THE BEST DAYS IF MY LIFE. 17:35 IN CROSS COUNTRY MY SOPHOMORE YEAR. 3.1 MILES. NOT THE BEST BUT I WAS OK.
