man I remember one day when the food wagon came around, and the guards started handing boxed dinner through the hole, the second guy opened his box and a giant Coach Roach jumped out, and they don't offer seconds,
when I was locked up in Louisiana this was commonplace. inmates sharing food, nobody went hungry. some of the nicest people were hard core gang members who had the biggest hearts.

Yes, this is a reconstruction or hypothetical. Probably actors. But this is something that happens. Everywhere in our society, every day. It’s about kindness. We all need reminders that kindness is not just a gift we give, but it’s a gift that gives us more to ourselves than the individual we might be extending that kindness. Giving is it’s own reward. Think about how good it feels to extend kindness and generosity to those we love; friends, family, loved ones etc. Try extending that same kindness and generosity to a stranger in need and see how it feels. That one act can cause a ripple effect that you may never see, but it makes our society a better one.
