This is a cute trick but it’s memorizing a path to an answer without any concept of why that’s the answer. Finding common denominators is critical for all fractions. What if we are adding three sets of fractions? This trick is useless.

She is correct. By multiplying the denominators of opposing fractures into the numerators and then multiplying the denominators together, you acquire the common denominator of the fractures, thus allowing you to complete the the arithmetic formula. Afterwards, you can simplify the result by the LCD. Basic 6th grade math.

Third grade, maybe second grade, math. The answer is correct, the presentation is great,, but the explanation is totally lacking. This is an adult class that will, probably, never understand what the teacher just did. If our children are being taught methods of reasoning like this, it's no wonder our children are falling behind. Thank goodness we homeschooled our kids.

I went as a guest to a G.E.D. class once they found out I'm good at math , and gave me 3 problems to solve. Gave them the correct answer on all 3 problems.. But was wrong, for doing it old school, that was all in my head. Not breaking it down to 5 steps. That takes way to long
