wrong. you teach your kids not to be spoiled. teach them that when times are hard things need to be forfeited. like more than one birthday gift. having a roof over your head, food and shoes you desperately need are also more as important than a bunch of gifts. I remember as a kid my dad wore holes in his shoes, the same work uniform everyday. He worked hard everyday just to get me through private school and pay for my gymnastics. He wouldn't miss a days payment nor my gymnastics practice. He paid my way through college and sat in the front row as I graduated and accepted my master's degree. Now I'm successful and I take care of him and I'm extremely appreciative of his sacrifices.

I get the point you’re trying to prove but it’s possible to give your child a good life without neglecting yourself. This “I’ll go hungry so she can eat steak” mentality is bit over the top. It’s not a noble act as a parent to spoil your children. Give your kids a better life than you had but don’t make your life worse to do so. As a parent, I get what it’s like to want to give your kids everything. I would gladly starve if it meant my kids can eat but we’re all eating cheeseburgers if the alternative is feeding them steak

I’ve worked to hard to not have my kids have nice things and what they need. Been wearing the same work boots and sneakers for years. My oldest boys got mad at me for wearing them. But didn’t understand that’s why they always had what they needed even when they wasn’t with me. Bought myself some boots and shoes last week and it felt good
