He managed to get most of the broken glass lid off the casserole successfully however some of it along the far edge did fall into the lower pan with the food. They can probably still eat most of it.

Never. As a person who worked in the health profession, it’s hard to see glass in the human body in any scan. I live by the saying, “when in doubt, throw it out”.
if anything ever does this over food don't bother eating the food. just because you don't see glass touching the food does not mean the smaller fragments are not still in the food from when it broke in the first place
