OMG!....my husband at the time was driving to some where....on the southern state parkway on long Island NY and he was in a rental....... when a tire came off a car bounced across the meridian and wound up on the windshield of his car....this was years ago my little boy sitting in the front seat of this car truly I was fucked up for year after this

I was driving next to semi pulling a trailer and the handle that lowers the wheels came off the truck i slammed on my brakes and it bounced right over my hood. Lucky I was paying attention and no one was behind me

I almost lost a wheel on the interstate after getting new tire, it was fine until I hit the breaks than I felt the wobble. I know enough about mechanics to stop and check it. All five lugnuts were down to two threads before I lost the wheel.

Seems to be driving too fast for one thing ; plus if he’s had his tires checked recently at a shop they should’ve been make sure that the Lugnuts were actually tightened

The Tire shops are known for leaving the lug nuts not tightened down. It happened to me after buying 4 new tires, I got a block from the shop when the two front tires came off striking on coming traffic. They refused to tow my car back to the shop where no one took responsibility. My Lawyer said the same company that owned to shop fire over 40 people that year and it was June. These employees are not trained mechanics, just people they hire who ever applies , first.
this happened right in front of me my uncle was driving a truck and trailer I was following him and the whole wheel came off at 70 mph thankfully it didn't go through anyone's home just a cow paster and no cows were hit either

crazy I found a tire in front of my garage one afternoon and it wasn't mine and couldn't figure it out my wife looked at the camera footage of the day and that morning a thunderstorm with strong straight line winds came through and up the street a neighbor had a basketball goal with a tire on the back for weight the storm blew the goal over enough that it stood the tire up and sent it rolling and it rolled about 200 feet down the street up my driveway past the cars and leaned it against my garage door just like thisone did the house. so this is absolutely possible I experienced a situation very similar. if not for camera I would have bet my life that someone had been changing a tire in my driveway .
