So many here don’t know the history of Iran. In the late 1940’s Iran was a democracy. One of only two in the region. The UK and the US overthrew the government and installed a king, the Shah. He forced western values and while popular in some quarters, resentment continued to grow resulting in cruel punishment for those who differed. As the populace continued to protest the Shah, suffering from cancer, came to the US for treatment ( and to escape) thus focusing the fundamentalists anger toward the US. When the exiled Ayatollah returned it completed the revolution. So now, for the second time in 75 years, the US has been a party to a regime change in Iran.
