They are completely safe and people are so cruel to them. They do NOT carry rabies, cleaner than any cat, and eat up to 10,000 ticks from yards a year. Leave them alone. And wash your filthy mouth out.

I used to feed a stray cat that was left homeless after Hurricane Sandy. I tried for quite a while to get her to come inside. Wasn't successful. Looked out the back door window one night and saw the cat and 2 possums sharing a meal. Strange bedfellows. I provided meals and several sleeping spots for whoever needed them. Had quite a colony after a while. Never any attitudes or arguments.

They can be dangerous to humans due to their potential to transmit diseases like leptospirosis and toxoplasmosis, and their defensive behaviors can lead to bites or scratches, which can carry the risk of infection if not treated properly.

I love possums. They have such a short life span.

Leave it alone. It does not carry rabies. And is quite docile. They look scary that’s their defense.

Safe? Hmmm. Yes, if you leave them alone and don't go near them or tried to do anything to them. Otherwise!!! They have very sharp teeth, claws, and can hurt you if you don't let them go. Don't mess with them. PS: They are not big rats.
