those can be pretty costly fish. I used to raise and sell them. personally, I would suggest they put a net or better wire cloth over the top. it will also prevent the local birds of prey from getting your expensive fish and pretty much anything else looking to eat them.

My sister's college room mate had a piranha in an aquarium in a narrow hallway...she was gone a week for Christmas or Easter break, and when she came home and was walking past the aquarium....it jumped out at her!! Must have been hungry! (She was a big girl!)

We had a Koi that we named Nemo. The pond had frozen over and he jumped through a hole in the ice where the filter was. We put him back under about 4 times.
if that fish had jumped in front of me, I would have clean, seasoned, fried then add onions, garlic, some mushrooms ,tomato and some butter, hot sauce stir it up and served on Jasmine rice, on the side collard greens and spinach sauteed, ahhhh..... I seafood and eat, yummy😆!!!!!!
We live on a lake. A while back we had a microburst come through. We were sitting on the beach a few days later and I noticed a very large koi had made its😲 way from someone’s koi pond into the lake. Figured it must have been quite a flight.

my friend has Koi fish, they're always jumping out of their ponds and right onto the boiling hot asphalt in the New Mexico sun. His kids are highly traumatized.
