I have never understood how that got so messed up. Uncle Tom was the hero, the villain was Simon LaGree and Sambo. People that turn against others that are just like them, not only for self-preservation but for spite and proximity to those that are hurting others that look like you, are Sambo's, not Uncle Tom's, who was beaten to death before he would betray other enslaved individuals attempting to gain their freedom. Uncle Tom was only a villain to the Caucasians who believed that escaping from kidnapping, trafficking, and enslavement was a bad thing.
