God is sovereign over all nations and determines their duration and boundaries, which can include protection from foreign invaders. The well-being of a nation is tied to its adherence to God's laws. Nations that turn away from God and reject His moral framework become vulnerable to internal and external threats. The prophet Zechariah describes God's active role in guarding His people and His dwelling place (temple) from invading armies, stating, "I will encamp at my temple to guard it against marauding forces. Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, for now I am keeping watch". Both leaders are far from God. You cannot lead the masses in service without being led yourself.
