South Dakota friends — we need to talk about what’s happening. Because of the Republican-led shutdown, 79,000 South Dakotans are losing their SNAP food benefits — right before the holidays. Lt. Gov. Rhoden has already said our Republican state leaders will not step in to help, not even with partial funding to keep families fed. That means thousands of kids, parents, and seniors in our own communities could go hungry through November and December. No Thanksgiving dinners. No Christmas presents. Just empty shelves and worry. This is what happens when politics come before people. But we don’t have to accept it — we can speak out, support our neighbors, donate, and remind our leaders that compassion isn’t partisan. South Dakotans help each other, and it’s time to prove that again.
