Many countries around the world use mail-in ballots, often referred to as postal voting or absentee voting, for their elections. The specific rules and availability of this voting method vary greatly by country. According to data from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), at least 34 countries or territories allow some form of in-country postal voting. Countries that allow all voters to use mail-in ballots (no-excuse voting) include: * Australia * Canada * Germany * Iceland * Liechtenstein * Luxembourg * Poland * South Korea * Switzerland * United Kingdom * United States (in some states) Other countries that allow mail-in voting for some voters (with an excuse) include: * India * Indonesia * Sri Lanka * Many other European countries It's also important to note that over 100 countries allow citizens living abroad to vote by mail.
