Fascinating story: There are dams on some rivers. Sometimes they're open to let water through! Other times they're closed and the water level upstream rises. Wow. and Get this-- They can create electricity too! I know, it sounds crazy but it's true.⚡What will they think up next?!
go take a look in the otis orchards area... levels are pretty high before they opened the dam... its gonna get much higher. as long as the dams down the river as well, it should be fine. if not, those areas are next. it will hit the low areas first... including the freeway.
Title confuses me. Avista is opening the dams to prevent flooding, so there will be no flooding downstream? I thought we were in a drought situation last September? Three months later, why would you store water behind a dam during fall and winter? That would mean the dams were probably close to full already. We did not have record rainfall over those 3 months, right? Maybe it is a balancing budget move because the state can ask for federal funding now, and before we know the true extent of the damage. All surplus money goes probably back into the general, and nothing will be done to prevent future flooding. Western WA has already requested this money.
