The present federal government shutdown should serve as a wake-up call to America about the human impact from federal government defunding of vital programs that address the universal societal problem of hunger and disease in America. Ironically, America's greatest asset is its people. A healthy and strong mass population is a healthy and strong America. The people are the true measure the nation's strength. Thus, the math is simple, food, medicine, and shelter are essential to public health; and, public health is essential to the nation's well-being. That being so, the U.S. Congress should be focused on making health care more accessible and affordable to the mass population. Every dollar invested in that regard saves multiple dollars needed to address a public health crisis brought on by hunger and disease. Interestingly, the federal government can spend billions of tax dollars on anything and everything but its own people.

before yall say ' My PaRtY cArEs AbOuT rE-oPeNiNg ThE gOvErNmEnT '... no they don't. if the government stays shut down for another day, a week, a month, hell a year, once its reopened they get all their paychecks back. they have no real incentive to reopen the government quickly, so prepare to struggle because it ain't happening until one side forks over all rights and power to the other side...
