Ponzie scheme, are you kidding me. I paid into it for 43 years. We should never have to worry about the fund drying up due to mismanagement. How about you increase the top end wage earners to continue contributions, AND cap a maximum payout to where it is currently. This may sound unfair to high earners, but sometimes, those with the most should assist those with less. The upper income people are able to shield a lot of income that the average person can't. Their wealth grows while we have to use every penny to live on. People will say that it's fair for the rich to get richer, and in theory, it is. but the rich have advantages that cause the playing field to favor them, not us. That's the true ponzie scheme.
Call it what you will the fact we are forced to pay into it. The government is forced to pay us back.
