I could tell you a story about the CIA and telephones starting in the late 70s - 90s that would completely blow your mind. Tech, as stone age as it was, is still used today, granted on a much broader and more highly advanced way, but the system has always been data and information gathering. When the first TI CPU came out, phones started going digital, small, telecommunications stations about the size of a living room were built all over the place, run by "your local phone company" of course, but these little stations, filled with Texas instruments hardware, gold threaded CPUs, and massive memory systems, every phone call, every time you picked up and opened a line, they were listening. Now, this was well before cell phones. The tech was there, just not established. These stations are, and many have become obsolete, do still exist in areas with working phone line systems. The tech now upgraded, hardwire phone lines are broadcasted from these stations or this doobie is kicking maaan.
