Why would you be in full gear jus to release some water from a hydrant ?
took him long enough to open it. house could have burned down by the time he got it open.

If they didnt clean the hydrant wouldnt there be a chance of the hoses clogging if theres build up

Why not just use an impact
People drink more rust than they are aware of if towns don’t flush their hydrants the pipes interior rust, and collect debris. This comes to your house, clogs your filter filters in your faucet and your hot water heater heaters.

You don’t want the sediment clogging the pumps in the fire trucks
Don’t want dirty water putting out a fire
It's done for a number of reasons, clean out the main lines after a break is fixed, clean out the Hydrant so you don't push dirt and rocks into a fire hose or pump truck. and check pressure, flow and residual static pressure.
You do not want to use a impact because that might break the stem going down.And that's a five thousand dollar fix

Sometimes idiots take the caps off and put junk inside. We were taught to open the valve before hooking up the equipment to flush out any debris.
You would think a gadget exists for all that turning.
