Am I the only one that flinched at the end.
Not how you approach or offer hand. Eye contact evaluation. if a dog holds a stare and doesn't look away, don't touch it... it doesn't trust you Get low, arm low/45°, bent fingers offering only a triangle 📐 FOR THIS VERY REASON. I grew up with dogs. I trained my own dogs. I trained my mom's dogs I trained my neighbor's dogs I put my hand into Vans and pick up trucks to pet dogs. I don't get bitten. I can read a dog better than I can read a person.... and I trust a dog more than I ever trust a person
I wish to say in our little city of Sierra Vista a elderly woman od 83 and her very tiny yet loving dog she had for 14 years was walking home from her last walk of the evening, opened her gate to the back yard all of a sudden 3 pit bulls attacked her and her dog killed them both blood all over the place one police officers finger was chewed off he in defense shot one dog but elderly lady and dog were killed on the spot what surprised me is they are still in court about this incident it happened in 2023 can you imagine that????? It was in the Paper that I Had read.
The dog in this video is not a pit bull. it looks more like a shepherd.

When I am meeting a strange dog, I turn my hand down so it wont be afraid of getting grabbed. And also, it’s not so easy for the dog to bite because my fingers are tucked underneath.

What kind of dog is this!! I ask the owner first before I pet any dog!! Usually Labs Collies or Goldies i just pet!!

There are no bad dogs, they either have no training or bad training. A service animal without training can be just as deadly as a pitbull.
Now the dog has to be quarantined for 10 days before being euthanized or euthanized and have its brain tested for rabies.

i was bitten in the face when I was in the 3rd grade, the dog came up to me very currious, and I was down on my knees showing this german shepard my hand to let it know that I was not a threat. She came up smelled my hand, licked my hand, and let me pet her, than in an instant showed me her teeth and lunged and bit me in the face on my nose and cheek. in a flash i had blood running down my face and into my mouth!
But why does she think a dog that is on the street is safe he probably thought she had food use your brain don’t touch a dog that you don’t know sorry but she asked for that

I never put my hand down to begin with. I let them smell me, watching their demeanor, and if all is well then I’ll let them smell my hand. I’ve always told people to do the same thing with my dogs and mine weren’t aggressive.

Been there done that with a dog dragging himself down a street. So sweet then he ripped an entire chunk off my forearm. Found out he was rabid. I still pet but I’m so much more observant. Rescue is not safe sometimes. You learn a lot about dog behavior indicators.
The proper way to let a dog sniff you is to make a fist, pointing down, with your thumb tucked in. Unless it is an unusually large dog, the dog can not get your fist in his mouth. You NEVER offer a "flat hand" that could be ripped off!
