Shortly after 1 p.m. that afternoon, Clayton County police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Flint Road in Jonesboro. They received a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim, Shannon Watkins, a 37-year-old male, had entered the location to purchase a drink with a holstered weapon on his hip. While waiting in line, a male suspect entered the store and stood behind Watkins. The suspect grabbed the gun from Watkins' hip and ran out of the store. A struggle ensued between Watkins and the suspect, leading to multiple shots being fired at Watkins. As he attempted to flee, a second subject exited a vehicle and also began firing at him. Both suspects then fled the scene in a white Chrysler 300. They killed white dude

Never forget when 37-year-old Shannon Watkins entered a store to buy something to drink. He was immediately targeted for being white. 18-year-old Chris Ervin Jr. snatched Shannon’s gun and fled outside. Shannon soon followed, and when he did, he was shot with his own gun. A second man, 18-year-old Kenderrion J. Muse, exited a nearby white Chrysler 300 and also shot Shannon several times. Shannon was pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspects were arrested shortly after and both were charged with: • felony murder • aggravated assault with intent to kill • robbery • possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime - And Ervin was charged with 1st degree cruelty to children because he had a child in his car.

Shannon Watkins, 37, was waiting in line at a store when an 18-year-old suspect snatched his holstered gun from his hip and ran outside. Watkins chased after the suspect, leading to a deadly struggle. As he tried to escape, a second suspect exited a white Chrysler 300 and opened fire, shooting Watkins multiple times. Tragically, he was killed with his own firearm. Both suspects fled the scene.
