Because coal is thirsty
Makes it heavier so less flys out ……dumbasses
Keeps the coal dust down I have hauled many thousands of loads of coal 75 to 80 tons and we never water it down in a truck
They sell it by weight, this makes it heavier, or profit
But nothing invented for the homeless to shower
Hold down the dust. Which could be detonated by static electricity.
The vibration of the train car can cause pieces of coal to rub together and cause friction and it can catch on fire.
keeps dust down
half ya mofo's know dam well ya ran too google 😂😂 I knw I did 😭😭😅
so it doesn't create friction and cause a fire
coal dust fire or explosion. 🤔👍
Spontaneous combustion
It’s called spontaneous combustion!
When I was little, we go visit my great grandma and take a basket out to the train track and pick up bits of coal that fell off out of the train. She used it for cooking and washing laundry in the fireplace. They said it would settle down after it got down out of the mountains and got that flat land area where she lived and if we were lucky, we’d see the train coming and go out and pump our fist that he would always blow his horn for us kids 71 years old now good memories
so it wouldn't catch fire 😭😭😭😭😭😭 like wtf els could it be ? 😭😭😭😭 usa education system in one question rite there 😭😭😭
Must be that new math they were teaching in grade school. A ton is 2,000 pounds, so 80,000 lbs would be 40 tons (not 80). Still maxes weight limits of most all bridges.
It keeps dust down and stops heat from internally building. So that it can combust
keeps the dust down .
That’s how we get clean, beautiful coal.
I was on the receiving end froze solid Wyoming prb coal had to be jack hammered from the bottom of rail cars. if you have never laid on your back and had someone put a 45 lb jackhammer on your chest. 👍
Adding water equates to more weight. Coal is sold by the pound which means less coal, but more weight. More weight means more money to transport and more money to the everyone in the distribution process. End result…higher cost to the consumer. It’s the same reason they feed cattle sweet feed mixed with large amounts of granular salt before they get sold at the auction, sale barn, or feed lot. Salt makes them thirsty so they’ll drink more water before their final weigh-in. At today’s cattle prices, a $6 bag of salt can be turned into $80 to $120 more per head to the seller, more commission to auction, sale barn, or feed lot, and higher prices to the consumer. Cattle will purge the salt & water within 72 hours and it’s completely untraceable & legal
Don't know about the train, but I've wet my coal down to keep it from turning to coke too fast. Anthracite isn't the best to work with but it does get hot. Like, turn your steel into a sparkler real quick.
well hell they'd save money if they're at the jolly Green Giant just piss on it😳
If you have ANY common sense then you don’t have to be told why🤪🤪🤪
do it won't blow out when the train gets moving good
so it don't over heat and start a fire?
Keeps it from catching fire o think
keeps down coal dust
nope
Main Reasons for Wetting Coal: 1. Dust Suppression: This is the biggest reason. Coal is naturally dusty, and wind can blow significant amounts (up to 3% of a car's load) out, creating hazardous dust clouds, fouling track ballast, and causing fires. 2. Fire Prevention: Wetting reduces ignition risk from sparks or spontaneous combustion, particularly for lower-rank coals (like subbituminous) that can heat up and ignite as they absorb moisture and oxygen. 3. Product Integrity: A crust (from polymer/latex sprays) keeps the load together, preventing shifting and loss.
Call is thirsty
so it doesn't catch on fire. as it travels especially during the summer time the sun can heat it up through UV rays and it will catch fire
good morning Google stop dust, spontaneous combustion ,or static electrical combusters.
dust and fire!
Holding down the temperature and raising the moisture level reduces the ignition point
the coal was dirty
Dust down
Dust control and coal will set itself on fire moving down the track without water. Like striking a dry match
..... so it gets wet?
Keep them from catching on fire
You learn something new everyday
Trains are neat. I like trains
So it can keep growing
the water is thirsty
Probably to keep the dust down
