Spotters are necessary. I had 2 of my best friends as spotters in my mid teen years and they decided to goof around and pull my spotter ropes tight when I was upside down during my third backflip of a quadruple backflip set. I went straight down and bent my head backwards. I had a headache shortly after and went to the nurse for ibuprofen and when she asked me what happened she made me lay down immediately and called for an ambulance. Never had I been so embarrassed. They got there during the lunch period and I requested we wait until after lunch. They said no so I insisted on them covering me from head to toe so nobody could see it was me. All I could hear on the way was kids standing close and all of them saying I died in gym that day. lol I did have a sprained neck though. 🤣🤕😳
I'm flinching and wincing all over the place anticipating those landings remembering how times I or my teammates found the brute end of a horse, parallel bar, beam, spring board, etc. lol!
I watch the women's gymnast in the Olympics and she was practicing now she's paralyzed from the neck down
Spotters are necessary and they can't be goofing off I love watching Gymnastics it is a tough sport it does take so many things in consideration strength stanama extreme practice fortitude attitude and shear guts hats off to gymnasts and spotters keep doing a good job

Gymnastics is a lot more dangerous than people think. I had a football coach who broke his neck without a spotter. He was a senior at Pitt and practicing on the Rings when he fell. Never walked again and spent rest of his short life in a wheelchair. I remember being in 6th and really being affected by it. The whole team was, thinking about it now. I believe it’s the first time that we as a group lost someone who meant something to us. 🙏🏻👍🏻
I am always wondering how many times they have not made the landing or finished the flip before landing. I’m sure they’ve had some painful experiences.
it's amazing this entire Olympics has been nothing but showing the female gymnast I had no idea the male gymnasts were this much stronger and faster and can do that many more flips and very impressive
where were the spotters when I was in the rings working out and one cable broke. Hard gym floor stopped me.

To be a Spotter, You have to have an amazing gauge for how it should go and how it could go wrong! Definitely a need for Spotters!!

They are doing something that is almost not humanly possible to do..... it is incredible.....
These spotters are life savers. However, why not have a larger bouncing area for the gymnasts? Maybe spotters wouldn't have such a significant role to keep the flippers alive.
But once they get that shit mastered they can become the star of any dance floor in any club across the country, all it will take is one back flip and everyone will be amazed!
Man, one miscalculation on the spotters behalf, and they are going to need some spotters to help them to assist with that ass whoopin that's coming 💀

They never get enough credit. If they screw up, somebody easily gets hurt. If they get it right, everybody just goes back and tries again.

the first one was a giant mistake. she obviously can't see or count. he was just fine and he would've landed that perfectly had the bozo not interfered. if you're going to be a spotter you should know what you're doing and be really good at it. you can get someone hurt, paralyzed or worse. for that ding bat immediately for incompetence.
