My mother eventually had to be confined to a dementia care home. I dropped in every weekend to sign her out for dinner. Sometimes she called me son and sometimes I was Bud Starnes, her insurance agent. My dad paid 5k for moms engagement and wedding rings in 1956. Someone in the institution stole both rings and Mom was laid to rest without her wedding rings. I had an employee suspect but I never had proof. To this day I want to hurt that guy real bad with an aluminum baseball bat I bought special. My mom spent so many hours nurturing her first born and teaching me right from wrong and compassion and empathy. I'm 90% sure this dude stole my mom's rings. I'm 100% sure my mom is proud I haven't given him a beating you can only live through one time. When you can prey on a well heeled dope dealer it's a special kind of excitement that would prey on an 89 year old woman paying $7500 per month for professional care.

I was a paramedic for long time. And this would happen at nursing homes all the time. Nurses would be sitting on their ass eating at the desk when we show up.

Yeah as a PA/paramedic this occurs wayyyy tooo often. I absolutely hate these facilities. Incredibly sad. Especially those CNAS. If you’re in this line of work you know the exact type of CNAS I’m refering too!

I worked at a nursing home as an orderly for my first job I was 17 years old at the time back in 1987. we had a rule that we were supposed to initial the patience's diaper that way we knew who had changed the patient last. I had asked for the weekend off, when I returned Monday "afternoon" I found her just like this with my initials on her diaper. I was fired for telling the family this same story and that was the last time I ever worked in the health profession.

If you walk in and it smells like piss and feces. Turn around and leave. First sign of neglectful care. Trust me. I managed a senior luxury facility on the West Coast and the only way you can keep the smell in check is mindful care, attention and housekeeping care.

Dey, all zeros. Been zeroes for 6 hours. Yeah many years ago I had a rehabilitation center patient that wasn't doing too well. Head nurse told me she(my patient )was going to die on my shift. And she did. As a young person, it really sucked. You want to feel completely helpless? Just watch someone die with not a damn thing you can do but make them comfortable.

I’ve seen as a paramedic this very thing in nursing homes.. I pushed to have the name Nursing Home removed, it implied that some nursing was being done. Those poor people residing there.
